Iligas (Kavis) Gorge

This gorge you can reach from the road Chora Sfakion towards Anopolis (about 2,5 km west of Chora Sfakion) and has an impressive stone-built access. Through the Iligas Gorge you can walk up towards the hamlet Mouri. Another, more frequent route starts in the Iligas Gorge and you walk westwards into a side gorge (also called Anopolis Gorge) towards the village Kambia. This was the old track between Chora Sfakion and Anopolis. Especially the last walk is described in some guide books.

The Iligas gorge is an unknown gorge and when you walk up it ends close to the deserted village of Kali Laki which is south of Mt Kastro.

In the upper part you need ropes and it is better to exit the gorge at the Byzantine chapel of the Holy Cross (Timios Stavros, having frescoes!) and walk of to the ruined village of Mouri. Opposite the chapel is also a spring in a cave along the path that leads to Mouri
